"Compuesta por tres fajas horizontales. La primera, que ocupa el cincuenta por ciento del pabellón va en color rojo, y significa la sangre derramada por los valientes soldados en la guerra de los mil días, pues Girardot como baluarte liberal, fue escenario de fieras batallas. La otra mitad de la bandera está dividida en dos partes iguales. El blanco, franja central, es la pureza de sus habitantes. El verde significa los campos y praderas que la circundan."
