English: Hisor Fort is not far from the capital Dushanbe near the town of Hisor. The 18th-Century twin-towered gateway is all that survived a 1924 Russian assault. Extensive renovation/reconstruction of the walls and interior is underway to make the fort more touristy.
While the fort is said to date back to Cyrus the Great, the King of Kings of Persia in the 6th Century BCE, the current elements relate to the much more recent 16th-Century version when it was the residence of a deputy of the emir of Bukhara (a majority-Tajik city in present-day Uzbekistan). The emirs would summer here. The gateway is in the Bukhara style of the 18th and 19th Centuries.
