The Template:Convert/LoffA~DorSoff shows a conversion for option "abbr=~" (tilde), to insert the unit-symbol abbreviation inside curly bracket parentheses, with separator "or" as in the following examples:

{{convert/old|14|cm|abbr=~|disp=or}}	→ 14 centimetres (cm) or 0 in
{{convert/old|67|MW|abbr=~|disp=or}}	→ 67 megawatts (MW) or 0 hp
{{convert/old|90|km/h|abbr=~|disp=or}}	→ 90 kilometres per hour (km/h) or 0 mph

The option "abbr=~" was introduced in November 2012, and has limited support with other options. The concept of an inserted abbreviation unit symbol is intended to promote the use of that unit symbol in further conversions, as an automatic result of the first conversion of the same unit.
