Another question, a lot of recently added articles have '[' in them, e.g. "сар[ади", are you OCRing articles in, or is this a typographical mistake? If this is a typographical mistake, can it be replaced with a single character? - [[User:FrancisTyers|FrancisTyers]] 13:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Salom,

Yes, you may move them to Firstname Lastname. I wonder how can I change titles of articles. You know Abdusamad who is my friend and works with me. A few years ago they prepared a book like encyclopedia of Isfara town, and he submitted some articles from there. Due to the font used in that book, there are some characters that maybe considered as mistakes. I will change them into Ғғ Ӣӣ Ққ Ҳҳ Ҷҷ Ўў - these letters are missing in those articles, I have changes some articles already.

Welcome to Tajik Wikipedia Ibrahim!

As you may have guessed already, a significant proportion of the regular contributors to this site know little or no Tajik. We hope you can contribute, no matter what your language skills are.

Enjoy!

Hi!

Nice to finally meet someone who really speaks Tajik! :) Yes, I have been developing a utility that translates Farsi to Tajik, you can find it here. It isn't perfect (obviously), but I would welcome any suggestion for improvements! By the way, I am an 'administrator' here, if you want something of the interface changed into Tajik, just tell me and I will do it. E.g. I would like to know how to call the "edit" button next to "мубоҳисавии" and "history" too.

Thanks again for your help in developing Wikipedia, - FrancisTyers 09:05, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Salom Francis

I am very happy to be a part of Wikipedia. What makes me feel impressed that you are developing such useful utiliy that can be useful for many of us to convert Persian into Tajik. I studied Persian and English at the faculty of foreign languages in Khujand State University, Soghd Region.

If you already know that Mozilla Firefox is translated into Tajik language and in its Edit menu I can see "Вироиш" Edit - Вироиш History- Таърих Move - кӯчонидан Watch - назар кардан (let's see what is written in Persian) Unwatch - назар накардан (let's see what is written in Persian)

I look forward to work with you ;)

Ibrahim

Ok, I made those changes. I have changed the "watch" and "unwatch" ones while I register an account on the Persian Wikipedia and check what they have there. Would you like to become an administrator, so we can translate the interface more quickly? Btw, there is a Google list of translations here: [1] which might be useful. Also, you can sign your posts like me using ~~~~ - FrancisTyers 17:19, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Right, I ran "Watch" (تعقیب) through my transliterator and got "таақеб", while "Unwatch" (توقف تعقیب) was "тауқф таақеб". Let me know if you want them changed. - FrancisTyers 17:21, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

And something about myself... I'm studying Linguistics at University of East Anglia (in England), and I studied Software Engineering at University of Wales, in Aberystwyth (Wales). I can't speak Persian or Tajik, but I can read Cyrillic from travelling in Eastern Europe and studying Russian for a short time. Thanks for the nice words about my program, at the moment I am writing my Masters dissertation, but after I have done that, I have some books on the Tajik language which I hope to use to improve it. Btw, I largely wrote the page en:Tajik alphabet, please let me know if I got something wrong! :) - FrancisTyers 17:35, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

I checked in my corpus, and I suspect that the transliterator made a mistake, and the word should be "таъқиб".
  • Watch -> تعقیب -> таақеб -> таъқиб
I couldn't find anything matching "тауқф" though... - FrancisTyers 18:24, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for introducing yourself. I appreciate it so much. Of course, I am not against to become an administrator working with you to make Wikipedia available in Tajik language.

You know some words like таъқиб may confuse Tajik readers and contributors, as such words come from Arabic language. Ordinary users will be confused.

--Ibrahim 07:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Ok, we'll keep it as "назар кардан" and "назар накардан" then :) How would you translate the stuff on the left hand side, and at the top? "Community portal", "Current events", "Recent changes" etc. and "my talk", "preferences", "my watchlist" etc.? I will see about getting you administrator privileges. - FrancisTyers 10:50, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
You can see the request at: m:Requests for permissions#Tg_Wikipedia. - FrancisTyers 11:38, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I have translated left hand side with the help of Farsi ;) and they are clear :)

Main Page - Саҳифаи аслӣ Community Portal - Вуруди корбарон Current Events - Вокеаҳои кунунӣ Recent Changes - Таъғироти охирин Random page - Саҳифаҳои тасодуфӣ Help - Роҳнамо Donation - Кӯмаки молӣ

Done these :) — how about "Navigation", "гаштаанд" ? - FrancisTyers 15:01, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

__ my talk - Гуфтугӯи ман or баҳси ман preference - тарҷиҳот My watchlist - Феҳристи назаротӣ ман my contributions - мушорикатҳои ман( I think it is better to say Хиссагузории ман) log out - Хуруҷ аз систем

I am also currently translating Atutor Distance Teaching and Learning System from www.atutor.ca

Done. - FrancisTyers 15:12, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Btw, you can use * to make a bulleted list, or # to make a numbered list.

I'll get on those others right now! - FrancisTyers 15:12, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

--Ibrahim 15:11, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Done those :) I have a question, is 'ў' ever used in Tajik (e.g. in Uzbek loan-words, names etc.) or is it always changed to 'ӯ'? I ask because if it is never used (or always translated), it may be possible to create an automatic program to change 'ў' to 'ӯ'. - FrancisTyers 15:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Btw, I translated "Special page" in the singular as "Саҳифаи вижа", is this correct? - FrancisTyers 15:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Would "in other languages" be something like "забон ҳа дигар" (trans. from Persian "збон ҳое дего" <- "جعبه‌ابزا") or am I way off? - FrancisTyers 15:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

"Ӯ" is often used in Tajik, as you may already know "Ӯ" is even a pronoun and means like He or She. 'ў' to 'ӯ' - no difference :) - Special page or Special pages.

  • Special page - "Саҳифаи вижа"
  • Special pages - "Саҳифаҳои вижа" or "Саҳифоти вижа"

- in other languages - there is IN so we can say "бо забонҳои дигар" --Ibrahim 07:48, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Ok thanks -- done those :) - FrancisTyers 09:50, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Another question (tell me if you are tiring of these), how would you translate "Go" in the "Ҷустуҷӯи" box? "Search" searches for a page, "Go" goes straight to the page, regardless of if it exists. - FrancisTyers 14:16, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

You mean whether I am tiring of this - a little bit :) Go means "рафтан". I think we may change as "равед" or "рав".

Please change Ҷустуҷӯи to Ҷустуҷӯ --Ibrahim 14:30, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Hallo! you may insert to the MediaWiki:Monobook.css some text from ba:MediaWiki:Monobook.css. It'll make some cyrillic characfters that are used in Tajik visible for everybody,,, --Untifler 07:35, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

If you are interested you mmay answer (also in Russian) at en:User talk:Untifler

Pages needing translation

Can you please translate "Pages needing translation", I would like to set up a category that we can put pages like Ленинобод in, so people can get easy access to pages that need to be translated. - FrancisTyers 10:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Pages needing translation - Саҳифаҳои мӯҳтоҷи тарҷума --Ibrahim 14:32, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Done those, see Category:Саҳифаҳои мӯҳтоҷи тарҷума, we should get a translate of "Category", "Template", "Image", "User" and "Wikipedia" (namespaces) at some point too :) - FrancisTyers 15:10, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Image - Акс
  • User - Корбар
  • Саtegory - Why not to say гурӯҳ-group or we may say категория
  • Template - I am not so sure about exact tajik translation, but mostly we say Шаблон like Russians
I have asked and I think we have to wait for these to be changed. I will put in a request though :) - FrancisTyers 15:35, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Long request

Ok, I talked to the developers and they say I have to file a bug report. Here is an example of the information we need in Russian: [2] and in Farsi: [3] Don't do it all at once as it will probably take too long! When it is done can you either post it here, or in a subpage, like User talk:Ibrahim/Interface translation. - FrancisTyers 16:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey man, I see some new articles like, ИСЛОМИДИНОВ Мирзошариф, these are people and are written LASTNAME Firstname. Would it be ok to move them to Firstname Lastname? This is easier for Wikipedia links I think... - FrancisTyers 13:12, 16 July 2006 (UTC)‎

Another question, a lot of recently added articles have '[' in them, e.g. "сар[ади", are you OCRing articles in, or is this a typographical mistake? If this is a typographical mistake, can it be replaced with a single character? - FrancisTyers 13:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Administrator

Hey man, your administrator access came through. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. You'll see two extra tabs at the top, "protect" and "delete". "protect" stops people from being able to edit the article, and "delete", obviously, deletes the article. You are also able to block users in line with the blocking policy (e.g. for vandalism etc)

With administrator access you can now edit the interface directly through Special:Allmessages (warning, it is quite a big page!

Again, any questions, email me. Btw. The access is only temporary until 30th September, the Stewards (from http://meta.wikimedia.org do not give out permissions on a permenant basis unless there has been an election — normally on Wikipedias we hold elections for administratorship.

Regards, - FrancisTyers 16:00, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
