Main page

Before you make large scale revisions, please discuss it with the other contributors, and please do not litter the main page with English. We are struggling to translate things as it is. I have kept some of your modifications, but please ask before changing something big like that. Btw, what do you mean by trim down the interwikis ? Apologize for any oversight. Generally, it is better if you use templates on the mainpage, rather than putting everything on it - it makes management of that page much easier; you should then update those templates periodically, rather then constantly changing the mainpage. This is just a suggestion from an experienced coder/wiki webpage designer. I believe there was nothing in English in my edits (except in the names of the templates, which you could easily redirect and substitute, without reverting the edits). The list of interwikis on your mainpage is too long, it makes the page too long with a lot of white space on it. Besides, you already have most of those iw links mentioned in the box below. So, general practice in other wikipedias is that you have only mostly used iw links in the sidebar - which are the biggest ones, once your language relates to most often, and/or of neighboring countries and those you share similar culture with. This is not a firm rule (there are no firm rules in wikipedia), so it's up to you. Again, sorry for not discussing these changes first, but I assumed that since visual effect on the mainpage was minimal (if any), I could go ahead, so you could see the benefit. The English referred to the page titles yes. I was surprised you used "Mainpage" instead of "Саҳифаи Аслӣ" for the template name, if you had not I may have not reverted. Regarding the interwikis, I'm not sure, I think we'd have to bring it up with the other contributors — although I agree that duplication (in the side bar and in the box) is not necessary. In the case like this revert is not the right move. What you should do (meaning what would be the most reasonable) was to redirect the templates to translated names and substitute them in the mainpage. It's up to you to discuss this, but, generally, this is not something that general editors would care about - it has no effect on the visual appearance of the mainpage. - al-o (:ka:T) 12:44, 13 Июн 2007 (UTC)

ps: the pink boxes are narrower than upper ones. On some browsers the text shifts outside the box and looks ugly. I corrected it in my edits by simly setting the margins to 100%, which were reverted. a.
