This Infobox is used to provide "at a glance" information about a fictional character in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise. Per Wikipedia guidelines on fiction, its approach favors "real world" significance over "in-universe" or "biographical" information. Entries are encouraged to be short and clear. Complicated or contentious points of information are best dealt with in the prose of the article. Additionally, information added to the Infobox deserves the same level of scrutiny one would give to the article's Lead section. Where inclusion of a detail in the Infobox either elides subtleties or overstates significances, it is best avoided altogether.

Parameters

• name - The character's common name in the franchise. "Common name" does not include such things as middle names, "real names", or nicknames that are not widely used.
• image - The file name of the character image to use in the infobox.
• imagsize - The width of the image is to display at. This must be a number less than or equal to 270. The image defaults to 270px by 270px.
• captions - The text caption for the image.
  • If in doubt, consult Wikipedia's guidelines on captions. Information from other fields (such as portrayer or character name) need not be repeated. A good caption will succinctly reflect sourced commentary on a real world aspect of the portrayal, such as acting, make-up, costume, or penciling (comics). This information ought to be of a very general and unobtrusive nature (suitable for a Lead section), and preferably will relate to the image in manner which is obvious.
• alt - The descriptive alternate text that Wikipedia:Alternative text for images suggests for images.
• first - The character's first appearance within the franchise (e.g. the film, a television episode, or a comic book). A first appearance is definitive and singular. It may be helpful to follow the appearance with its year of release in brackets.
• creator - The person credited with creating the character.
• portrayer - The actor or actors that performed in the role of the character within the franchise. This is limited to:
  • Prominent appearances of the character;
  • Participation in a legitimate and completed production, or having finished some recorded work for an abandoned project; and
  • Where participation is mentioned or covered in the article's prose.
• groups - Groups within the franchise that the character is a part of. These should not include general organizations such as the police or the armed forces. Specific fictional military organizations, units, or projects are an exception to this. This should also not include schools. Any listing of affiliations should not be exhaustive.
• role - This is a general classification the character falls into other than "Human".
• abilities - Supernatural abilities or related skills that notable for the character. This list should be kept short and clearly phrased.
  • Many characters will not require use of this field. It is not helpful to list a character's skills, traits, or minor aptitudes as examples of "abilities".
• Angel and B&A - This template automatically presumes that the character originated in and is unique to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Angel can be used for characters that originated in and remained unique to the Angel spin-offs. B&A can be used to identify characters that have appeared in both Buffy and the spin off Angel series.

While not required, lists under portrayer, groups, and abilities can use {{plainlist}}.
